When selecting e-wedding invitations, it is important to strike a balance between tone, format and necessity. A wedding, whether it is formal or informal, is nothing without its invitees. If you want to motivate and tempt your guests into coming on your big day, then consider mastering the following tips regarding e-wedding invitation etiquette:

#1.  Keep the Importance of the Occasion in Mind

Digital invitations may seem casual to send, but the message they are trying to convey is anything less than unplanned. Your wedding, irrespective of how simple or grand it may be, is a personal and formal occasion. If you want your guests to be convinced by how important their attendance will be, then ensure your e-wedding invite communicates this clearly through your choice of typeface, images, word choice and other digital embellishments. It must still contain elements that one would find in a paper invite such as your names as well as those of your respective families, the wedding date, details about the venue, etc.

#2.  Adopt a Formal Tone

It’s your wedding! What impression would you like guests to have? Even the most casual wedding must be communicated in a clear and concise manner. Avoid using informal, impromptu or text message spellings in your invite. Even though your form of invitation may be regarded as casual, the invite doesn’t have to convey it in that manner.

#3.  Include Details that will Make Your Guests Comfortable

When a guest responds to an invite, he or she will immediately want to know how to access your venue, i.e. directions by car, bus, train, etc. They may also want to determine the dress code, details about a gift registry, etc. While designing the RSVP section of your e-wedding invitations, you may want to include map link that provide information on how to reach your venue, a calendar icon that enables guests to save the date, hotel information if your venue is out of town, etc. When you include planning aspects into your invite, guests begin to feel more excited and prepared.

#4.  Personally Address your Guest

It’s tempting to email a template invite to all your guests but this can do more damage than good. Don’t expect many guests to show up! Even though you’re sending out a paperless invite, you still need to personally address your guest, i.e. ‘Dear Mr. and Mrs….’. You don’t want guests to feel like they’re being sent a mass email. When you personalize your invite, people notice it and feel more motivated to attend.

#5. Follow Up

After you’ve sent the invite and received your RSVPs, you may still want to remind guests about the approaching wedding date. Instead of inundating guests’ inboxes with more emails, it might be tactful to pick up the phone and give a call. One of the biggest drawbacks of digital communication is that we’re bombarded with so much of it every day. A phone call is still personal and proper, even though it’s a throwback to the old days! This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use emails because you can. However, don’t be surprised if you don’t get a response!
